Wolves mate for life and are very social and family oriented animals.  Their family life was admired and copied by many Native American tribes.  Hunting in packs and sharing the bounty could have inspired early peoples to band together in similar efforts.  Wolves have been all but eliminated in North America but just like American Indians, their coming back.
