During the
winter of 1838-39 sixteen thousand Cherokees were rounded up and forced
overland to Indian Territory on the infamous Trail of Tears.
During the Removal over 4,000 Cherokees died. Through all the suffering
and hardships of the Trail of Tears, the Cherokee People kept the
Heart of the Eagle and the strength of the Cherokee Nation prevailed.
